Spotify's music was stolen, with files totaling nearly 300TB.

 

Many people are familiar with Spotify as a global music streaming platform offering a vast selection of songs and artists. However, who would have thought that a platform of this caliber could be targeted by a phishing website like Anna's Archive, which stole 86 million songs – representing 99.6% of Spotify's listening history?

Normally, Anna's Archive collects and archives books and documents for the purpose of preserving human knowledge and culture. But this time, the website seems to have discovered a vulnerability that allowed them to steal a massive amount of data from Spotify. They then quickly downloaded over 86 million songs, one-third of all songs on the platform, and made them available for download via BitTorrent, totaling nearly 300TB of files.

In addition to stealing data, Anna's Archive also analyzed and summarized the song data on their blog. Naturally, upon discovering this massive theft, Spotify took action by shutting down all accounts involved in the data theft and announced that they have implemented new security measures to address the issue. We'll have to wait and see where this data theft ends, because the amount of music that was stolen may be beyond monetary value.
