Apple releases AI that converts images into 3D images.
Apple machine learning research team has released the SHARP (Single-image High-Accuracy Real-time Parallax) model for converting a single photograph into a 3D image for use in AR/VR glasses. The key feature of SHARP is its extremely short processing time while delivering high image quality.

SHARP converts images to add depth in the 3D Gaussian splats (3DGS) format. Testing the resulting image quality against various criteria showed it to be superior to all previous 3D conversion techniques, while maintaining high processing speeds; the A100 chip can process an image in under one second.

A demo animation can be viewed on GitHub Pages.
