X has released a new "Edit Image" feature, allowing users to edit any image that has been posted publicly.
A controversy surrounding AI on X has arisen in recent days. Users discovered a new "Edit Image" feature, allowing users to edit any publicly posted image. Editing is done by simply entering the desired prompt, and AI Grok will modify the image accordingly. X released this feature without any official announcement.

This feature sparked controversy among artists. For example, Boichi, the manga artist of Dr.STONE, immediately stopped posting new artwork on his personal X account. He explained that while he wasn't afraid of AI and saw it as a source of future opportunities, the ability to edit images without prior consent, as in the Edit Image feature, was unacceptable to him.

Currently, X doesn't offer an opt-out option for users to prevent others from using this feature, leading to a resurgence of calls for artists to switch platforms. Some artists have also tried alternative solutions, such as posting images as GIFs (since the feature isn't yet supported) or adding watermarks.
