New York has passed a law requiring warning labels on social media similar to those on cigarette packaging.
New York State has announced a new law requiring social media platforms to display warning labels indicating that excessive social media use can negatively impact mental health. The label format is similar to the warning labels on cigarette packaging.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul stated in a press release that the law aims to enhance the safety of the state's population and protect children and youth from the dangers of prolonged social media use.

In addition to New York, California and Minnesota have similar laws requiring warning labels on social media platforms. However, these warning labels will not be displayed when users are outside the state's jurisdiction.
