SpaceX Posts First Post-IPO Earnings Q2 Revenue Hits $7.8B as Starlink Profits Offset $15.8B AI Infrastructure Spend.
SpaceX has released its financial results for the second quarter of 2026, marking its inaugural quarterly earnings report following its high-profile Initial Public Offering (IPO) in June.
Total revenue across all operating segments surged 92% year-over-year to $7.814 billion. The company reported a net quarterly loss of $541 million, primarily driven by heavy initial capital expenditures in its newly formed AI division, which recorded an operating loss of $1.257 billion for the period.
SpaceX restructured its operational footprint into three distinct business segments:
Space (Launch Services): Revenue climbed to $962 million, supported by 78 launch missions completed since the beginning of the year.
Connectivity (Starlink): Revenue reached $4.291 billion, standing out as the company's sole profitable segment. The Starlink subscriber base expanded to 12.0 million users, backed by an active constellation of 10,200 satellites in low-Earth orbit (LEO).
AI (Infrastructure & Supercomputing): Revenue generated reached $2.561 billion. The segment saw massive capital deployment, with $15.828 billion in infrastructure investment primarily allocated toward building next-generation AI data centers.
During the post-earnings call, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk clarified the company's compute strategy, confirming that SpaceX's dedicated AI data centers will exclusively utilize NVIDIA hardware. Musk outlined aggressive compute targets, projecting total data center power capacity to reach 2 Gigawatts (GW) by the end of 2026, with an ambitious target to scale up to 10 Gigawatts by the end of 2027.
Starlink's financial stability allows SpaceX to make massive investments. With over 12 million subscribers and 10,000 active satellites, it generates a steady and consistent cash flow. This recurring subscription model subsidizes high-risk, capital-intensive businesses like interplanetary launch systems and gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure without causing balance sheet issues.
Considering Elon Musk's 10-gigawatt goal in a broader context helps provide better analytical context. 10 gigawatts of power is equivalent to the power output of approximately ten standard nuclear reactors—enough energy to light millions of homes.
