OpenAI has officially updated its desktop ChatGPT app for macOS, introducing native integration with Apple Messages. This enhanced capability enables ChatGPT to interact with conversational threads spanning iMessage, SMS, and RCS protocols directly within the Mac environment.

When users grant permission, the integration unlocks several automated messaging workflows:

  • Thread Search & Contextual Reading: ChatGPT can parse, search, and analyze past conversation history within Apple Messages on the user's Mac to retrieve key details or synthesize summaries.

  • Drafting & Pre-Send Approval: The app can draft contextually relevant replies, holding them in a preview state for explicit user approval before any message is transmitted.

  • Granular Privacy Controls: Users maintain full data sovereignty, with the ability to revoke ChatGPT's access permissions to Apple Messages at any time via system settings.

This cross-platform messaging integration is available to both ChatGPT Work subscribers and developers utilizing Codex tools on macOS.
