Google Play Books Meets AI Gemini Notebook Introduces Expert Intelligence Integration.
Google Integrates Play Books into Gemini Notebook with New 'Expert Intelligence' Feature

Google has officially launched a major update to Gemini Notebook (formerly known as NotebookLM), introducing a new feature titled Expert Intelligence. This update allows users to seamlessly import full-length e-books purchased through Google Play Books directly into their notebook workspace as active data sources.

Once integrated, these Play Books function identically to standard text documents, web links, or PDF uploads within the platform. Users can leverage Gemini's underlying AI model to perform full-book content summarizations, conduct interactive Q&A sessions, extract key themes, or generate derivative study artifacts such as executive slides, audio podcasts, and customized revision quizzes.

Google confirmed that the feature launches with support for over 100,000 e-book titles, encompassing major international publishing houses alongside direct partnerships with high-profile authors. This initiative allows verified book buyers to transform static digital reading materials into interactive, queryable personal knowledge bases.

The shift from passive reading to active synthesis is significant. Digital books are typically isolated within reading apps, preventing users from referencing technical concepts across multiple texts. By importing Play Books directly into Gemini Notebook, researchers, students, and professionals can search multiple books simultaneously and synthesize complex concepts without manual note-taking.

Integrating commercial ebooks into AI environments has consistently faced strong resistance from publishers regarding copyright infringement and unauthorized use of training data. Google's approach respects publishers' digital rights management (DRM), strictly tying access to verified purchases while performing inference within the user's personal notebook container, preventing text from being used to train open models.

Beyond basic text search and summarization, Gemini Notebook's ability to transform entire chapters into interactive audio overviews (podcasts) or structured learning quizzes creates diverse learning environments, making it more than just a document reader; it's an automated personal tutor specifically tailored for factual, academic, and professional literature.
