Nintendo Revenue Doubles to ¥1.91 Trillion as Switch 2 Sales Outpace Wii U Lifetime Records.
Nintendo has released its financial results for the quarter ending December 2025, revealing a massive leap in growth driven by the unstoppable momentum of the Nintendo Switch 2. For the nine-month period from April to December, revenue skyrocketed by 99% year-on-year, reaching ¥1.91 trillion, while net profit climbed to ¥359 billion.
Hardware Performance: The Rise of a New Icon
The spotlight remains on the Nintendo Switch 2, which sold 7.01 million units in the last quarter alone. Since its launch three quarters ago, total sales have reached 17.37 million units officially surpassing the total lifetime sales of the Wii U in record time. Meanwhile, the original Nintendo Switch continues to show resilience, moving another 1.36 million units during the same period.
Software Highlights
Strong hardware sales were accompanied by a robust software lineup:
Mario Kart World: 14.03 million units
Donkey Kong Bananza: 4.25 million units
Kirby Air Riders (Launched Nov): 1.76 million units
Pokémon Legends: Z-A (Switch 2 Edition): 3.89 million units (Note: This figure accounts for physical copies sold since its October launch and excludes digital downloads).
Nintendo has maintained its full-year sales forecast for the Switch 2 at 19.0 million units for the fiscal year ending March 2026.
The fact that the Switch 2 surpassed the Wii U's total sales (13.5 million units) in less than a year reflects Nintendo's ability to significantly overcome supply shortages and create demand more effectively than before.
The sales of Mario Kart World, reaching 14 million units against a base of 17 million consoles, represent a very high attachment rate almost implying that "buy the console, buy the game" a business model that is Nintendo's strongest.
The sale of Pokémon Legends: Z-A (physical cartridges only) reaching 3.89 million units in just a few months indicates that Nintendo fans still value collecting and may be preparing for future features requiring cartridge connectivity.
Analysts believe that Nintendo's "maintain guidance" of 19 million units demonstrates confidence in its supply chain, ensuring there will be no chip shortages like those experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic and readiness to handle demand in the final quarter of the fiscal year.
