iPhone 18 Pro Rumors Will Dark Red Be the Next Big Hit After Cosmic Orange?
iPhone 18 Pro Leaks: Dark Red Emerges as the Potential Hero Color to Succeed the Cosmic Orange Success

This week’s Apple rumors come from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, focusing on the upcoming color palette for the iPhone 18 Pro. Following the massive success of the "Cosmic Orange" iPhone 17 Pro which played a pivotal role in boosting sales within the competitive Chinese market Apple is reportedly looking to double down on bold aesthetics.

The Return of Red?

According to Gurman, Apple is currently weighing two major contenders for the iPhone 18 Pro’s signature shade: a vibrant Orange and a sophisticated Dark Red. Given Apple's strategy of launching a "hero color" to drive annual marketing campaigns, Gurman suggests that Dark Red is currently the frontrunner to become the primary color for 2026. This would mark a significant return for the hue, as the last major (PRODUCT)RED iPhone was the iPhone 14.

The shift toward more adventurous colors is made easier by Apple’s unibody aluminum construction, which allows for high-precision anodization and a broader spectrum of color choices compared to previous manufacturing methods.

The "Foldable" Aesthetic: Classic and Sophisticated

Gurman also dropped hints regarding the much-anticipated Foldable iPhone. Unlike the Pro series, Apple is expected to take a more conservative approach with its first foldable device. The color options will likely be limited to a "Professional" palette, consisting of Black, Dark Gray, Silver, and Basic White, focusing on a premium and timeless look for its most expensive category.

Gurman's emphasis on sales in China is very important, as in Chinese culture, dark red symbolizes wealth and good fortune. Choosing dark red as the hero color for the iPhone 18 Pro could therefore be a direct strategy to counter the growth of local brands like Huawei and Xiaomi.

Apple's development of a special-grade aluminum coloring technique that rivals titanium in previous models allows for lighter weight while maintaining a premium look. Deep burgundy or crimson colors tend to offer more beautiful sheen than lighter shades.

The choice of white, black, and gray for the foldable iPhone positions it as an "executive tool" rather than a fashion item, attracting high-end users seeking sophistication.

Apple typically changes its flagship color annually to create a recognizable visual identity, instantly signaling the "latest model." The return of dark red after a long absence will likely stimulate demand among collectors and die-hard PRODUCT-RED fans.
