Figma and Anthropic Join Forces Create Editable UI Directly from Claude Code.
Figma has announced a groundbreaking integration with Anthropic, allowing designers and developers to leverage Claude Code to generate user interfaces directly within Figma. This partnership bridges the gap between conceptual thinking and high-fidelity prototyping, enabling users to transform verbal or written ideas into fully editable Figma files instantly.
How It Works
The integration utilizes the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a new standard that allows AI models to interact with external tools. To use this feature:
Install the Figma MCP within your development environment.
Direct Claude Code to generate a design.
Simply type the command: "Send this to Figma."
The UI will then appear in Figma as organized layers and components, ready for further refinement by the design team.
The heart of this news is MCP, an open protocol promoted by Anthropic to extend AI beyond chat functionality and enable it to "handle" other tools. Figma's support for MCP means that in the future, we might be able to instruct AI to inspect design systems or regularly update files directly through the code.
This feature breaks down barriers between developers and designers. Developers can use Claude Code to create preliminary UI wireframes and then send them to Figma for designers to refine, significantly reducing the time it takes to start from scratch (Blank Canvas).
Claude Code doesn't just create simple images; it understands code structures (like React or Tailwind). Sending files to Figma therefore includes a layer hierarchy similar to real-world programming, making requirements handoff more efficient.
Imagine needing to create 10 slightly different dashboard designs. You could instruct Claude to create them all at once and send them to Figma for A/B testing in minutes.
