Claude Code Goes Mobile Anthropic Introduces Remote Control for Terminal Sessions.
Coding on the Move: Anthropic Unveils "Remote Control" for Claude Code

Anthropic has announced a powerful new capability for Claude Code: a Remote Control feature that bridges the gap between the desktop terminal and mobile accessibility. This update allows developers to initiate complex coding tasks or long-running terminal processes on their local machines and monitor the progress directly from the Claude mobile app while away from their desks.

How It Works and Key Constraints

The Remote Control feature functions by linking a live terminal session to the cloud. However, there are specific technical requirements to keep in mind:

  • Active Session: The local terminal must remain open and the process must be running continuously for the remote link to stay active.

  • One-to-One Connection: Each Claude Code session currently supports a connection to only one remote device at a time.

Availability: Research Preview

The feature is currently in the Research Preview phase. It is initially available exclusively to subscribers on the Claude Max plan, with plans to expand access to Claude Pro users in the near future.

This feature changes how developers work. Previously, they had to sit in front of a screen waiting for code to finish running or for AI to debug complex tasks. Now, we can leave tasks running, go for a meal, or travel, monitoring the results on our mobile devices. If the AI encounters problems or requires confirmation, we can interact directly from the app.

Remote control via a terminal carries security risks. Anthropic likely uses end-to-end encryption to ensure that commands sent from the mobile device to the computer are not intercepted. The requirement to leave the computer running is part of the security system to maintain maximum local control for the user.

In an era where AI requires high processing power, this feature allows us to use a powerful computer at the office or home as the primary processor, while the mobile device serves only as a thin client for control. This enables truly advanced programming that can be done from anywhere.

Making it available first in the Max package (the highest-priced version) reflects Anthropic's view that this is an enterprise-level feature for power users who require high flexibility and want to test server loads before releasing it to a large audience.
