Apple Brings Mac Mini Home New Houston Facility to Start Production in 2026.
Apple to Produce Mac Mini in the U.S.: Houston Factory Set to Begin Production in 2026
In a significant shift toward domestic manufacturing, Apple has announced plans to produce the Mac Mini on American soil. The production will take place at Apple’s new facility in Houston, with operations scheduled to commence within 2026.
Shifting from Asia to the Americas
Historically, the Mac Mini has been manufactured through Foxconn’s extensive network in Asia, including facilities in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and China. However, in response to U.S. policies incentivizing the return of manufacturing bases to the United States, Apple is pivoting its supply chain strategy. This move follows the successful establishment of Apple’s Houston operations in 2025, which currently produces specialized servers for the company’s internal data centers.
Expanding the Houston Ecosystem
The Mac Mini production will be integrated into the existing Houston site but will utilize a newly constructed factory. In addition to hardware assembly, Apple plans to launch an Advanced Manufacturing Center, a specialized training facility designed to develop a highly-skilled workforce and refine cutting-edge manufacturing processes in the U.S.
The Mac Mini is a compact product that utilizes a higher level of automation in its assembly process than the iPhone or MacBook. Starting production of this model in the US reduces labor costs and allows Apple to test its advanced manufacturing systems before expanding to other products.
Houston is not only known for its energy resources but is also becoming a hub for high-level logistics and engineering. Apple's manufacturing location here provides easier access to transportation networks across America compared to Silicon Valley, where the cost of living is too high.
By 2026, tariffs on goods manufactured in China or Asia may become more stringent. Having a "Made in USA" manufacturing base for the domestic market will help Apple maintain stable profit margins and pricing even during trade wars.
The Houston factory also produces Apple's own AI servers (Apple Intelligence Servers). Manufacturing the Mac Mini at the same site will allow for optimal sharing of components and M-Series chips.
