SpaceX Confirms Plans to Acquire Cursor Ahead of Potential IPO.
SpaceX Forges Strategic Alliance with Cursor: A $60 Billion Path Toward AI Integration

In a move that signals a massive leap into the artificial intelligence sector, SpaceX has officially announced a sweeping strategic partnership with Cursor, the leading AI-powered code editor. This collaboration outlines a clear roadmap for a potential acquisition, positioning SpaceX as a major player in the global AI infrastructure landscape.

The Colossus Infrastructure and Acquisition Terms

The agreement is built upon several high-stakes pillars:

  • Harnessing Colossus: Cursor will gain access to the Colossus data center, which houses a massive array of NVIDIA H100 GPUs. This provides Cursor with the world-class compute power necessary to scale its next-generation AI coding models.

  • The $60 Billion Option: The deal grants SpaceX the exclusive right to acquire Cursor in its entirety by the end of 2026 for $60 billion.

  • The Contingency Plan: Should SpaceX decide not to proceed with the full acquisition, it retains the option to pay $10 billion to expand the existing strategic partnership, ensuring long-term technological synergy between the two companies.

Confirming the Rumors

This official announcement confirms earlier industry reports that SpaceX was eyeing an acquisition of Cursor for approximately $50 billion. The finalized terms, now at a higher valuation of $60 billion, align with SpaceX's broader strategy to integrate advanced software automation as part of its upcoming IPO (Initial Public Offering) preparations.

SpaceX has never been just a rocket company, but a software-centric engineering firm (from orbital calculations to automated control systems). Acquiring Cursor will allow SpaceX to dramatically accelerate its internal tooling development, using AI to write complex code and ensure safety-critical code with greater precision.

Access to the Colossus data center is a key turning point. Running world-class AI-powered coding models requires immense computing power. Cursor's GPU support from SpaceX will enable them to develop features superior to competitors who still rely on public cloud computing.

Announcing this deal as SpaceX prepares for its initial public offering (IPO) signals to investors that SpaceX is transitioning from an aerospace company to an "AI & Deep-Tech Powerhouse," which will significantly boost its valuation upon going public.
