Microsoft Launches Xbox Mode for Windows 11.
Microsoft has officially announced the rollout of "Xbox Mode" for Windows 11, bringing a dedicated full-screen gaming interface to general PC users. This feature aims to replicate the seamless, controller-friendly experience found on handheld gaming devices like the ROG Ally or the Xbox console dashboard itself.
How to Enable Xbox Mode
Users can access this new interface by updating Windows through the standard Windows Update process. Once updated, the feature can be toggled via the following path:
Settings > Gaming > Full screen experience
Select "Xbox" as the preferred mode.
Once enabled, users can quickly trigger the Xbox interface using the Game Bar (Win+G) or through the Task View (Win+Tab) menu.
Availability Notice
Microsoft noted that Xbox Mode is currently rolling out in a limited capacity to specific regions. While a definitive list of supported countries has not been released yet, the feature is expected to expand globally as testing concludes.
Microsoft's release of this feature acknowledges that "PC Gaming Handhelds" (such as the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and Lenovo Legion Go) have become a significant and undeniable market. Originally, Windows 11 was designed primarily for mouse and keyboard use, which is difficult to navigate on small touch screens. Xbox Mode helps make Windows a more "perfect" operating system for portable gaming devices.
This feature isn't just beneficial for portable devices; it's also great for those who connect their computer to a TV in the living room (Home Theater PC). Xbox Mode allows you to relax on the sofa and select games with a controller without having to get up to click the mouse, instantly transforming your PC into a high-spec console.
It's anticipated that Xbox Mode will be closely integrated with Xbox Game Pass, displaying previously played games (Quick Resume) and suggesting new games from your library instantly, minimizing the transition between booting up and accessing a game (Reduced Friction).
