Nothing Phone (4a) Series Debuts Metal Build and 140X Zoom Redefine the Mid-Range.
Nothing has officially announced its latest smartphone lineup, the Nothing Phone (4a) and Nothing Phone (4a) Pro. Serving as the successors to the popular Phone (3a) released in 2025, these new devices signal a shift towards a more premium build and advanced photography capabilities in the mid-range segment.
The Design Evolution: Metal and Matrix
The Phone (4a) Pro marks a significant departure from previous plastic builds, adopting a sleek metal chassis. It also inherits the Glyph Matrix display on the rear a feature first introduced with the flagship Phone (3). Meanwhile, the standard Phone (4a) maintains the classic transparent aesthetic with a focus on the essential camera module and LED Glyph lighting.

The inclusion of a 50MP periscope lens in a phone starting at just £349 is a game-changer, as this level of zoom is usually reserved for expensive flagship models. Nothing's inclusion of it in the (4a) model demonstrates a desire to capture a share of the affordable photography market.
The new chipset is designed specifically for on-device AI. In Nothing OS 4.1, we may see features like AI Voice Memo Summarization or Generative Image Editing that work quickly without relying on the cloud.
Being one of the first smartphones to come with Android 16 reflects the close collaboration between Nothing and Google. Nothing OS maintains its bloatware-free design and unique dot-matrix aesthetic widgets.
The guaranteed 6-year security patch warranty is a strategy that challenges competitors like Samsung and Google in the same price range, providing added confidence for enterprise customers and long-term users.
