Capcom PC Revolution: PC Sales Now Match All Consoles Combined

According to Capcom latest quarterly earnings report, a significant shift in the gaming landscape has been revealed. The company reported that PC sales now account for approximately 50% of its total game sales. The remaining 50% is split across all other platforms combined, including the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and mobile devices.

A Future Focused on PC

With PC gaming showing a clear upward trajectory, Capcom has officially announced a strategic pivot to prioritize the platform. A key driver for this evolution is the technical and developmental insights gained from Monster Hunter Wilds. Capcom plans to utilize the "lessons learned" from this flagship title to optimize future development cycles for other franchises.

The "Day-One" Steam Success

One of the primary catalysts for this surge in PC revenue is the record-breaking launch of Resident Evil Requiem. The game, which sold 5 million units in its debut week, benefited immensely from a simultaneous multi-platform launch. By releasing on Steam on day one alongside consoles, Capcom captured a massive, ready-to-buy global PC audience.

Unlike consoles, where sales tend to be concentrated at launch, long-term revenue streams from PC gaming have allowed Capcom to maintain consistent sales through Steam sales events. Older series like Resident Evil 2 Remake and Monster Hunter: World continue to generate revenue even years after their release.

In markets where consoles don't dominate, such as China or Eastern Europe, PC is the primary gaming platform. Capcom's improved language support and regional pricing have successfully expanded its customer base into these markets.

The PC modding community plays a crucial role in maintaining high engagement with Capcom games, particularly in the Monster Hunter and Resident Evil series, encouraging new players to purchase games based on social media recommendations.

This success is partly due to the highly optimized RE Engine, which allows Capcom games to run flawlessly on a wide range of PC specifications, from high-end computers to handheld devices like the Steam Deck or ROG Ally.
