NVIDIA Injects $2 Billion into Nebius: A Strategic Move to Build a 5GW "AI Factory" in the US

In a major move to address the skyrocketing demand for AI computing, NVIDIA has announced a $2 billion investment in Nebius, a leading AI infrastructure provider based in the Netherlands. This partnership marks a significant expansion of NVIDIA’s influence within the global cloud and data center ecosystem.

Building the Future of Infrastructure

Under the terms of the agreement, Nebius aims to scale its data center capacity to over 5 Gigawatts (GW) within the United States by 2030. These facilities will be powered by NVIDIA’s latest architectural breakthroughs, including the Vera Rubin GPU platform and BlueField DPUs (Data Processing Units).

Arkady Volozh, CEO of Nebius, highlighted the company’s unique position:

"Nebius was built with an AI-first DNA from day one. We understand and design everything to meet the specific needs of developers. Partnering with NVIDIA allows us to create the world’s first large-scale 'AI Factory' capable of supporting every imaginable requirement."

Building a 5GW data center is a massive undertaking (equivalent to the combined power output of several large power plants). This reflects NVIDIA and Nebius's preparation for the Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) era, where the power requirements for model training will skyrocket many times over.

The use of the Vera Rubin chip (the latest model from 2026) in conjunction with the BlueField DPU will help reduce data transmission bottlenecks between servers. This is crucial for large-scale "AI Factories," allowing for smoother and more energy-efficient processing of models with tens of billions of parameters.

Nebius's significant investment in the US, backed by NVIDIA, is a strategic move to diversify risk and build confidence in data sovereignty and cybersecurity—issues of paramount importance to governments worldwide.

Unlike traditional cloud providers (hyperscalers), Nebius is designed specifically for running AI (AI-Native), resulting in higher throughput infrastructure and more competitive pricing for AI startups requiring massive computing power.
