Ramp Report Anthropic Now Wins 70% of New Enterprise AI Deals Over OpenAI.
Anthropic Overwhelms OpenAI in 2026 Enterprise Race: Brand Perception Trumps Technical Specs, According to Ramp

A new report from Ramp, a leading financial operations platform with deep visibility into corporate spending, reveals a dramatic shift in the enterprise AI landscape as of February 2026. While total AI adoption among businesses has surged to a record 47.6%, the power dynamics between the two industry titans have entered a state of massive disruption.

The Market Share Paradox

Currently, OpenAI maintains its position as the overall leader with a 34.4% market share. However, this figure is largely seen as "legacy momentum." The real story lies in the meteoric rise of Anthropic, which has climbed to 24.4% in early 2026. Meanwhile, other competitors including Google’s Gemini continue to struggle for relevance in the corporate sector, with Gemini holding less than 5% of the market.

The 70% Landslide: Anthropic Dominates New Customers

The most striking data point from Ramp's analysis focuses on new AI adopters in 2026. Among businesses purchasing AI services for the first time this year, Anthropic is winning approximately 70% of head-to-head matchups against OpenAI. In contrast, OpenAI’s share of new business has plummeted to just over 20%.

Identity Over Infrastructure: Why "Claude" is Winning

Interestingly, the shift isn't purely driven by technical superiority. Ramp notes that while OpenAI Codex and Claude Code perform similarly on most benchmarks—and Codex is often cited as being cheaper with fewer usage limits Anthropic has successfully built a "Cultural Moat."

  • The "Cool" Factor: Anthropic is currently perceived as the "premium" or "professional" choice among engineers and researchers.

  • Brand Perception: Choosing Claude has become a signal of professional identity, with users perceiving it as more precise, transparent, and stable for complex workflows compared to the more "mass-market" feel of OpenAI.

One factor contributing to Anthropic's lead is Claude Code (CLI Tool), which runs very smoothly in the developer terminal. While the OpenAI Codex emphasizes its role as an "automated assistant" in the cloud, Claude is seen as a collaborative partner with a deeper understanding of large-scale project structures, making it the top choice for senior software engineering teams.

A Ramp report indicates that companies are increasingly adopting "multi-homing" strategies, using multiple AI tools simultaneously. Currently, over 79% of Anthropic's customers still pay OpenAI, but they are increasingly migrating mission-critical tasks to run on Claude due to their trust in the model's safety and constitutionality.

Losing market share in the enterprise sector has prompted OpenAI to restructure. We are beginning to see OpenAI focusing more on becoming a "consumer super-app," integrating image, video, and human interaction capabilities (multimodal) to attract general users. While Anthropic dominates the "Professional Tools" market for specialized tasks,

even though Codex is cheaper, at the organizational level, "precision" is worth far more than a monthly subscription fee. Claude's ability to consistently write "right the first time" code on complex architectures reduces debugging time for engineers, saving labor costs far greater than the cost of an API.
