New Studio The Pokémon Works Debuts with Pokémon Champions for Switch and Mobile.
The Pokémon Company has officially revealed the release schedule for its latest spin-off title, Pokémon Champions. This new entry focuses on strategic, turn-based Pokémon battles, drawing heavy inspiration from the fan-favorite Pokémon Stadium series. The game is slated for a Nintendo Switch release in April 2026, with a mobile version for Android and iOS following between June and August 2026.
The Debut of "The Pokémon Works"
Pokémon Champions marks the first project developed by The Pokémon Works, a new joint-venture studio between The Pokémon Company and ILCA. ILCA is well-known for developing Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, as well as managing the Pokémon HOME cloud service.
Cross-Title Integration
The game will feature significant connectivity with the main series. Players who have save data from Pokémon Legends: Z-A can transfer their Pokémon via Pokémon HOME to unlock exclusive special items within Pokémon Champions, rewarding long-time trainers for their loyalty.
It's anticipated that Pokémon Champions will be pushed as a primary platform for Pokémon esports competitions, as the game omits world exploration and focuses on a balanced ranked battle system with stunning next-gen graphics for live streaming.
One feature fans have been requesting from the Pokémon Stadium era is the "Rental Pokémon" system, allowing new players without a Switch or who haven't played the main series to immediately assemble battle teams, making the game more accessible to a wider audience (mass market), especially on smartphones.
It's expected that ILCA studio will leverage its expertise in online systems from Pokémon HOME to create an advanced Spectator Mode, where viewers can watch real-time battles and vote or send items to cheer on players, fostering a strong social media community.
Although announced for the original Switch, rumors suggest the game is designed to support "Enhanced Mode" for Nintendo's next-generation console, offering 4K resolution and more spectacular move effects.
