Apple Budget Beast iPhone 17E Arrives with A19 Chip, 256GB Storage, and MagSafe.
Apple has officially announced the latest addition to its budget-friendly lineup: the iPhone 17E. Starting at $599, the device sets a new standard for value by doubling the base storage of its predecessor to a generous 256GB. The most significant hardware evolution, however, is the long-awaited integration of MagSafe, enabling faster wireless charging and a vast ecosystem of magnetic accessories.
Pro-Level Performance in a "Budget" Shell
Under the hood, the iPhone 17E is powered by Apple’s latest A19 chip the same silicon found in the standard iPhone 17. While it features a slightly modified quad-core GPU, it remains a performance beast for its price class. Additionally, it debuts Apple’s proprietary C1X cellular modem, which Apple claims delivers speeds up to 2x faster than the C1 modem found in the iPhone 16E.
Optics and Durability
Camera: The device features a 48MP main camera capable of a 2x optical-quality crop. While the hardware remains similar to the previous generation, the A19’s advanced computational photography significantly boosts image processing. For selfies, it retains a crisp 12MP front camera.
Display: The 6.1-inch screen is protected by the new Ceramic Shield 2. Apple states this glass is 3x more scratch-resistant than the 16E and features an improved anti-reflective coating.
- Build: Despite adding MagSafe magnets, the iPhone 17E weighs only 169 grams (just 2g heavier than the 16E). It retains its sleek aluminum frame and IP68 water and dust resistance.
Power and Battery Life
Thanks to the efficiency of the A19 chip, the C1X modem, and the intelligent power management of iOS 26, the iPhone 17E boasts up to 26 hours of video playback.
Charging: Fast-wired charging hits 50% in approximately 30 minutes.
MagSafe Upgrade: Wireless charging speeds have doubled, jumping from 7.5W on the 16E to 15W on the 17E.
Availability and Pricing
Pre-orders begin this Wednesday, March 4, with the official release on March 11, 2026.

Apple's use of an in-house modem reduces its reliance on Qualcomm and allows for more efficient signal reception and power saving, a key factor in achieving up to 26 hours of battery life in the same compact body.
The iPhone 17E is expected to be the most repair-friendly model, following European regulations. Apple may offer easier battery replacement to maximize the lifespan of the A19 chip, which is projected to last 5-7 years.
