Cisco Hits Record Revenue in Q3 2026: AI Infrastructure Surge Drives Growth Amid Organizational Restructuring

Cisco Systems has reported a landmark performance for its third fiscal quarter of 2026 (ended April), achieving a record-breaking revenue of $15.84 billion. This represents a 12% increase year-over-year, alongside a GAAP net income of $3.37 billion.

The AI Tailwind: Data Center Demand Explodes

The primary driver behind this growth is the relentless demand for AI data center infrastructure from "Hyperscalers" (major cloud service providers).

  • Order Growth: Product orders surged by 35% in the cloud sector. Even excluding cloud providers, Cisco maintained a strong 19% growth across other segments.

  • Revised Forecast: Total AI-related orders for the fiscal year have already surpassed $5.3 billion. Consequently, Cisco has aggressively raised its full-year guidance from $5.0 billion to $9.0 billion.

Strategic Restructuring: Pivoting to an AI-First Future

Despite the record revenue, CEO Chuck Robbins announced a strategic organizational realignment to better integrate AI across Cisco’s portfolio. This shift includes a workforce reduction of approximately 4,000 positions, representing less than 5% of its global workforce. The move is designed to streamline operations and reallocate resources toward high-growth AI and security initiatives.

What has brought Cisco back to top form in the AI era is its Silicon One chip family, designed to handle the high-throughput data demands of AI models like Gemini and GPT-5.5. Analysts believe Cisco is no longer just a hardware seller, but a key player in the infrastructure layer that competitors find difficult to match.

The layoffs amidst massive profits may seem contradictory, but it's a trend among Big Tech companies. Cisco is reskilling its employees, shifting from a traditional hardware sales focus to expertise in AI-driven networking and cybersecurity—higher-margin areas.

This quarter is clearly showing the results of the Splunk merger. Integrating network data with observational systems allows Cisco to offer solutions that tell customers "when your AI network will fail" before it actually happens—a strength that enterprise customers are willing to pay extra for.
