Olden Era Sells 500,000 Copies in Explosive Early Access Launch.
The Return of a Legend: Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era Shatters Sales Records

The strategy gaming world is buzzing with the highly anticipated (Early Access) release of Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era. Marking the eighth installment in the legendary turn-based series, this title arrives after an 11-year hiatus following its predecessor. The fan reception has been nothing short of phenomenal, with the game moving over 500,000 units on Steam within its first three days, securing the #1 spot on the global top-sellers list.

A Commercial Triumph

The 500,000-copy milestone is a massive win for the project. The developers previously revealed that upon hitting 250,000 sales on the first day, the game had already fully recouped its development costs, making every subsequent sale a pure profit for the studio.

New Blood, Old Passion

Olden Era is developed by Unfrozen, a Cyprus-based studio comprising over 50 veterans from Eastern Europe (moving away from the previous developer, Limbic Entertainment). For many at Unfrozen, working on this franchise is described as a "dream come true," as they grew up playing the original titles.

While Ubisoft has retained ownership of the IP since the fifth installment, a strategic shift was made for this release. Hooded Horse has taken over publishing duties, bringing their proven track record from hits like Manor Lords and Against the Storm to ensure this classic series reaches a modern audience.

The main reason for Unfrozen's overwhelming fan response is its choice to return to its roots, the most popular Heroes III, both in terms of art style and a more streamlined gameplay system, rather than trying to be overly complex like Heroes VI or VII. Understanding the fans' nostalgia was key to this success.

Ubisoft's choice of Hooded Horse as publisher was a very smart move. Hooded Horse is known for its deep understanding of the strategy and simulation game market. They know how to turn a niche market into a mass success, and the game recouped its investment from day one reflects their lean development approach.

The Heroes of Might and Magic series has its strongest fanbase in Eastern Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Poland). Having a development team from this region allowed them to accurately infuse the game with the spirit and details that true fans wanted, something that Western development teams in the past might not have been able to achieve.
