Meta Launches Standalone "Seller" App to Empower Facebook Marketplace Merchants with Built-in AI Tools

Meta has officially launched a new standalone mobile application named Seller, specifically tailored for merchants, small businesses, and frequent sellers operating on Facebook Marketplace.

According to Meta, the decision to unbundle seller tools into a dedicated platform stems from the need to provide merchants with a focused, utility-driven workspace. The app incorporates a suite of business-oriented features, including generative AI product listing creation, a unified multi-channel inbox, inventory management tools, and seller performance analytics.

Meta clarified that the Seller app functions as an optional companion tool. Data across products, listings, and customer messages syncs seamlessly with the user's existing Facebook Marketplace account, allowing merchants to continue selling through the standard Facebook app if they prefer.

Currently, the Seller app is available exclusively on the iOS App Store in the United States, with Android and web versions scheduled for release in upcoming updates.

Meta's strategy of separating specialized functionality from the core Facebook application addresses a challenge faced by large sellers as Facebook Marketplace grows into a major e-commerce channel. Managing the massive volume of inquiries and inventory within the average consumer's social feed is a key objective. Separating a dedicated "seller" app mirrors successful seller-centric platforms like eBay Seller Hub and Shopify Mobile, offering user-friendly and business-centric interfaces.

Integrating a creative AI-powered listing builder directly into the mobile workflow solves one of the biggest problems for small sellers: writing catchy titles, creating detailed descriptions, and tagging relevant categories. By taking images as input and automatically generating structured listings, Meta significantly reduces listing time, resulting in higher Marketplace inventory levels.

With the rapid expansion of secondhand goods (pre-owned and used items) and fierce competition from social shopping platforms like TikTok Shop and Pinduoduo/Temu, enhancing the seller experience is crucial for retaining customers. Empowering small and local businesses with professional inventory management and analytics ensures Meta remains a dominant hub for local and person-to-person commerce.
