Anthropic Eyes Striking $10 Billion Infrastructure Lease with Meta to Fuel AI Compute Hunger.

Anthropic Eyes Striking $10 Billion Infrastructure Lease with Meta to Fuel AI Compute Hunger.
Anthropic Reportedly Seeks Massive $10 Billion Compute Deal to Lease Meta’s Private Data Centers

Following months of industry whispers that Meta Platforms Inc. was preparing to open its proprietary AI data center infrastructure to external corporate tenants, a clearer picture of the landscape has emerged. The high-profile mystery client is reportedly Anthropic, one of Silicon Valley's leading frontier AI safety and research labs.

According to a detailed report from The New York Times, which cited three sources closely embedded within the negotiations, Anthropic proactively initiated the blockbuster proposal in June. Meta is currently evaluating the structural parameters of the deal, which is projected to carry a staggering total valuation of $10 billion USD over a two-year duration, structured via fixed monthly amortization payments.

For seasoned industry observers, Anthropic’s aggressive search for third-party compute space comes as no surprise. The creator of the Claude model family has wrestled with a persistent, severe compute deficit as it races to train its next-generation foundation systems. This strategic desperation was highlighted just months prior in May, when Anthropic successfully inked a separate, specialized data center leasing contract with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to capture excess infrastructure capacity.

The Meta-Anthropic Infrastructure Deal Blueprint

  • The Core Transaction: Anthropic is seeking to lease Meta’s custom-built AI data centers to run its advanced generative models.

  • Deal Valuation: An estimated $10 billion USD total contract value spanning a 2-year timeline.

  • Payment Architecture: Structured as consistent monthly recurring payments from Anthropic to Meta.

  • The Trigger: Initiated directly by Anthropic in June to resolve critical hardware and capacity bottlenecks.

  • The Context: Follows Anthropic's multi-layered infrastructure expansion strategy, including a major lease with SpaceX signed in May.

Transcending Meta's traditional business boundaries, where it invested massive capital expenditure (CapEx) in building cutting-edge hardware architecture data centers to run its own Llama model internally, the move to allow a competitor like Anthropic to lease Meta's cloud space indicates Meta's search for diversification strategies to "monetize infrastructure" and transform itself into a new hyperscaler, challenging established players like AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.

Anthropic's complex alliances, already bolstered by major contributors like Amazon (AWS) and Google, both providing computing power, reflect the harsh reality of today's AI landscape: "computer power is more valuable than gold, and there's never enough." Diversifying into multiple cloud platforms will prevent Claude's systems from collapsing if any single server reaches full capacity.

The monthly amortization structure of the $10 billion contract over two years means that Anthropic will have to pay Meta an average of $416 million USD per month (approximately 14 billion THB per month). This massive sum of money will be converted from capital raised from various groups into direct revenue for Meta. This indicates that the AI frontier war in 2026 has reached a point where "those without strong financial backing won't survive," and in the future, the winner may not be the one who designs the best models, but rather the one with the financial resources to lease supercomputers for the longest possible period.
