Ubisoft and Microsoft Launch Console-to-PC Offer Granting Free PC Games to Xbox Players.
Ubisoft Partners with Microsoft for "Xbox Console-to-PC Offer" Granting Free PC Game Copies to Xbox Players

Ubisoft has announced a landmark partnership with Microsoft to introduce the Xbox Console-to-PC Offer, a cross-buy initiative that provides players who purchase eligible Ubisoft games on Xbox with a free copy of the corresponding PC version.

The offer applies retroactively, meaning players who previously purchased eligible titles on Xbox can claim their PC digital copies directly through Ubisoft Connect. Furthermore, edition parity is fully preserved if a player owns the Deluxe Edition on Xbox, they will receive the equivalent Deluxe Edition on PC at no extra cost. However, Ubisoft clarified that the offer is strictly one-way: purchasing a game on PC does not grant a digital copy on Xbox.

While Microsoft introduced a similar cross-buy ecosystem called Xbox Play Anywhere back in 2016, that program has largely remained restricted to first-party Xbox Game Studios titles. Ubisoft’s initiative marks one of the first major third-party publisher commitments to cross-platform ownership on Xbox and PC.

🎮 Initial Eligible Game Lineup

The offer currently covers 13 major Ubisoft titles across popular franchises:

  • Assassin’s Creed Mirage

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

  • Far Cry 6

  • Immortals Fenyx Rising

  • Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

  • Riders Republic

  • Skull and Bones

  • The Crew 2

  • The Crew Motorfest

  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction

  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege

  • Watch Dogs Legion

This change addresses long-standing limitations on cross-platform game ownership between PC and consoles. While Microsoft's original Xbox Play Anywhere model tied licensing to the Microsoft Store on Windows only, Ubisoft's model offers direct PC licensing through its proprietary launcher (Ubisoft Connect), giving PC gamers full access to PC-specific features, driver profiles, and overlay options available within the Ubisoft ecosystem.

For Ubisoft, offering free PC licensing is a key strategy to attract and retain users on its proprietary PC launcher. By requiring users to link their Xbox credentials to Ubisoft Connect to receive a PC copy, Ubisoft expands its active PC user base and opens up direct marketing channels for DLC, seasonal passes, and Ubisoft+ subscriptions.

One major benefit for consumers of this program is integration with Ubisoft's existing cross-platform progress tracking system. Since games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Rainbow Six Siege, and The Crew Motorfest already sync save files, items, and unlocked achievements via Ubisoft Connect, players can seamlessly transition from a high-end PC to a living room Xbox without losing game progress.
