Samsung Inks Landmark Enterprise Deal with OpenAI for ChatGPT and Codex.
OpenAI Secures Massive Enterprise Win: Partnering with Samsung to Deploy ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex Worldwide

In one of its most substantial commercial milestones to date, OpenAI has officially announced a sweeping enterprise agreement with electronics giant Samsung. The landmark deal will see the immediate deployment of ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex across Samsung’s entire workforce in South Korea, alongside a global rollout hitting its flagship Device eXperience (DX) division the critical business unit responsible for the global production of smartphones and consumer tech.

OpenAI confirmed that this partnership stands as one of the largest single enterprise deployments of ChatGPT Enterprise in the AI startup's history. The integration spans multiple internal verticals, empowering employees working across software engineering, product research and development (R&D), global marketing, and advanced manufacturing assembly lines.

Furthermore, OpenAI highlighted the unique organizational versatility of Codex, its proprietary AI system tailored for code generation. While traditionally viewed as a developer-centric platform, OpenAI emphasized that Codex is uniquely positioned to empower non-technical personnel. Within Samsung's ecosystem, the tool will be heavily utilized to democratize software creation allowing employees without coding backgrounds to instantly translate conceptual ideas into functional internal software, corporate web applications, specialized data tools, and fully automated administrative workflows.

Deal Architecture at a Glance

  • Enterprise Client: Samsung Electronics (Entire South Korean staff + Global DX Division).

  • The AI Suite: ChatGPT Enterprise (Advanced reasoning/security) + Codex (No-code/Low-code translation).

  • Scope of Impact: Software Engineering, R&D, Marketing, and Smart Manufacturing.

  • Strategic Milestone: One of the single largest enterprise deployments in OpenAI history.

This deal is considered a "major twist" in the IT industry because back in 2023, Samsung announced a complete ban on employees using ChatGPT after it was discovered that an engineer had secretly placed confidential semiconductor source code into a chatbot, leading to a data leak. Samsung's decision to partner with OpenAI this time demonstrates that the ChatGPT Enterprise version has very robust data privacy and governance systems. OpenAI guarantees that Samsung's data will not be used to train public models, allowing a giant known for its security like Samsung to fully embrace this technology.

The new role of Codex: Normally, coding tools are limited to programmers for debugging. In this context, Samsung is trying to transform marketing, human resources, and production staff into "Citizen Developers." For example, the marketing department can instruct Codex to write a script to automatically generate reports from competitor statistics online, without having to wait in line to send work requests to the company's central IT department. This will significantly increase operational speed throughout the organization.

The fact that Samsung's R&D staff across the Galaxy mobile and smart home ecosystem worldwide have access to top-tier AI for idea generation means Samsung is using this tool to accelerate the development of consumer AI features, such as creating new functionalities for One UI or smart refrigerator/TV systems. This creates a competitive advantage against Apple (which is pushing Apple Intelligence), and Apple itself is rumored to rely on OpenAI's backend model. Therefore, this deal secures Samsung's enterprise-level power to avoid being at a disadvantage in the current AI war.
