50th anniversary ATM Cabinet, the first in the world.


On June 27, 1967 in the British Barclays bank opens ATM booth at the World Bank in Enfield since the beginning of the Service, without the need for staff.

ATMs first cabinet does not have an ATM card to withdraw money to get today. But the  withdraw money from the "check" was specifically designed. It was proposed by John Shepherd-Barron. Banknote printing company De La Rue who annoyed with not being able to cash out a check on Saturdays. Barclays Bank agreed to install an ATM for the first 6 series and later the Cabinet was expanded to 50 Cabinet.



Shepherd-Barron proposed that the code for cash should have 6 digits in length. But because of his wife. Remember, more than four digits are not. He's so tuned four-digit

Shepherd-Barron predicted from year 2007 before his death in the year 2010 That the last people will use their mobile phone to make financial transactions.
