In a massive win for fans worldwide, Universal Destinations & Experiences and The Pokémon Company have officially announced a long-term partnership to develop a series of world-class attractions. This collaboration aims to bring the beloved world of Pokémon to life within Universal Studios theme parks, starting with Japan before expanding across the globe.
An Unprecedented Immersive Experience
While specific details remain under wraps, the partnership promises a "groundbreaking" and "uniquely immersive" experience that utilizes state-of-the-art technology.
The Launchpad: Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in Osaka will be the first to host the new Pokémon attraction.
Global Rollout: Following its debut in Japan, the project is slated to expand to other Universal locations, which currently include Hollywood and Orlando in the USA, Beijing (China), and Singapore.
The Arrival of PokéPark Kanto
In addition to the Universal partnership, the franchise is preparing to launch PokéPark Kanto, a dedicated Pokémon activity space and nature-themed park. This highly anticipated project is scheduled to open its doors on February 5, 2026, offering fans a chance to explore the "Kanto Region" in real life through outdoor adventures and interactive experiences.
- Analysts predict that this might not be just "one ride," but a large new zone similar to Super Nintendo World, potentially incorporating augmented reality (AR) technology and interactive bands to allow players to "catch Pokémon" throughout the park.
- The reason for choosing USJ first is because the overwhelming success of Super Nintendo World in Osaka proves that Japanese video game intellectual property (IP) is currently the most powerful tourist attraction in the world.
- The expansion of Pokémon into Universal Studios is seen as a direct challenge to Disney, as Pokémon is the world's highest-grossing media franchise, which will attract even more families and Gen Z tourists to Universal.
- The choice of the name PokéPark Kanto has deeper meaning, as the Kanto region is where the first generation of Pokémon (Red/Blue) originated, which will help attract original fans (Millennials) to relive their childhood memories.
