SK Hynix Soars to $1.12 Trillion Market Cap Commanding 57% of the Global AI HBM Market.
SK Hynix Joins the $1 Trillion Elite, Cementing South Korea's Dominance in the AI Memory Supercycle

Hot on the heels of its industry peers, South Korean semiconductor giant SK Hynix has officially crossed the monumental $1 trillion market capitalization threshold. This historic milestone comes just one day after its U.S. competitor, Micron Technology, eclipsed the same trillion-dollar frontier, and follows Samsung Electronics, which bridged the trillion-dollar gap earlier this month. While Micron trades on the U.S. stock exchange, SK Hynix achieved its valuation milestone directly on the Korea Exchange (KRX).

A Massive Single-Day Stock Rally

Driven by an insatiable global demand for artificial intelligence hardware, SK Hynix’s stock price witnessed an explosive surge, skyrocketing up to 14.9% in a single trading session. This dramatic rally locked in the company's consolidated corporate valuation at approximately $1.12 trillion. The fiscal breakthrough is backed by a stellar financial turnaround, with the company’s latest quarterly earnings report revealing a jaw-dropping threefold (3x) increase in total revenue.

The Undisputed King of High Bandwidth Memory (HBM)

While the broader memory industry is riding an unprecedented wave, SK Hynix holds a definitive competitive advantage owing to its absolute dominance in the premium High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) sector the ultra-fast silicon architecture stacked directly onto enterprise AI graphics processing units (GPUs).

SK Hynix securely commands a staggering 57% lion's share of the global HBM market. In comparison, domestic rival Samsung Electronics controls 22%, while U.S.-based Micron Technology holds the remaining 21% of the high-margin market infrastructure.

Why does SK Hynix hold a 57% market share in HBM chips, significantly outpacing Samsung and Micron? The secret lies in their status as the first major supplier to pass NVIDIA's rigorous testing standards, securing exclusive rights to supply HBM3E chips (and preparing to supply HBM4) for use with top-tier AI accelerators like NVIDIA H100, B200 (Blackwell), and the latest series. This direct partnership with the AI king means that investment from global tech giants buying NVIDIA graphics cards flows directly into SK Hynix's pockets.

Technically, SK Hynix's chips surpass competitors in their packaging technology, known as MR-MUF (Mass Reflow Molded Underfill). This method injects liquid thermal paste into the gaps between 12-16 layers of stacked RAM chips. This technique allows SK Hynix's HBM chips to dissipate heat more efficiently and results in a lower yield rate compared to competitors like Samsung, which uses traditional NCF technology. This is a "technical moat" that makes it difficult for competitors to replicate in the short term.

The event that occurred in May 2026 marked a new chapter for the technology industry. The world witnessed all three major memory manufacturers (Samsung, Micron, SK Hynix) simultaneously surpassing the $1 trillion mark. This reflects that in the golden age of generative AI, memory density and data transfer speed have become the "ultimate computing bottleneck" for supercomputers. The value of RAM companies is no longer that of a cyclical commodity, but rather that of "strategic global infrastructure," much like chip manufacturers such as TSMC.
