OpenAI Expands Subscription Tiers: New $100 ChatGPT Pro Plan Bridges the Gap for Power Users

OpenAI has officially announced a new addition to its subscription lineup: a $100 per month ChatGPT Pro tier. This new plan sits between the popular ChatGPT Plus and the top-tier $200 Pro plan, offering a more flexible entry point for professional users who require higher compute limits without the full cost of the flagship offering.

With this update, OpenAI current consumer subscription ladder now includes:

  • Go: $8/month

  • Plus: $20/month

  • Pro (New): $100/month

  • Pro (Full): $200/month

Targeting the Codex Power Users

OpenAI explained that the $100 Pro plan is specifically tailored for developers and technical professionals who rely heavily on Codex for programming and engineering tasks. While the $20 Plus plan often hits usage ceilings for heavy coders, this new $100 tier provides 5 times the usage quota of Plus.

As a special introductory offer, users who subscribe to the $100 Pro plan before the end of May 2026 will receive a 10x quota boost specifically for Codex operations.

Status of the $200 Pro Plan

For existing $200 Pro subscribers, OpenAI confirmed there will be no immediate changes to their benefits. The $100 version is designed as a "Pro Lite" alternative for those who need high-performance features but do not reach the extreme usage levels of the $200 tier. Users can toggle or upgrade their plans immediately within the account settings.

The $100 per month price tag is a key deciding factor for freelancers and software engineers, as it's five times more expensive than the Plus plan but half the price of the premium Pro plan. OpenAI's focus on the Codex indicates their desire to attract developers who might be looking for alternatives like GitHub Copilot or Claude Dev back into the OpenAI ecosystem.

The separation of the $100 and $200 plans allows OpenAI to manage GPU clusters more efficiently. By segmenting users based on compute demand, the system can allocate resources to higher-paying users without experiencing latency bottlenecks during peak usage times.

The concurrent Go ($8) plan reflects OpenAI's attempt to cover the entire market (full-spectrum), from general users needing AI assistance for small tasks to enterprise-level users requiring massive computing power, in order to counter competitors like Google Gemini and Anthropic, who are aggressively expanding across all price ranges.

The 10x Codex promotion runs until the end of May. This could signal the release of a new model (such as GPT-5.5 or Codex 2.0) in mid-year, with Pro $100 users being among the first to test this new capability.
