Meta Muse Spark Arrives 10x More Efficient AI to Challenge GPT-5 and Gemini.
Meta Unveils "Muse Spark": The Efficiency Powerhouse Challenging GPT-5.4 and Gemini 3.1

Meta has officially introduced Muse Spark, the inaugural model in its new Muse series, developed by the Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL). This launch marks a significant milestone, as Muse Spark delivers frontier-level intelligence while setting a new benchmark for computational efficiency.

Frontier Performance with "Contemplating" Mode

Muse Spark is a natively multimodal model, capable of processing text and visual inputs with ease. In standard evaluations, it holds its own against industry titans like Claude Opus 4.6, Gemini 3.1 Pro, and GPT-5.4.

However, its true potential is unlocked through the new "Contemplating Mode." Unlike traditional reasoning that relies on a single process, this mode orchestrates multiple AI agents to work in parallel, synthesizing findings to solve complex problems. This "multi-agent" approach elevates Muse Spark’s performance to compete directly with high-reasoning models such as Gemini 3.1 Deep Think and GPT Pro, particularly in scientific and research-heavy tasks.

The 10x Efficiency Breakthrough

The most striking aspect of the Muse Spark architecture is its radical efficiency. Meta revealed that the model achieves the same level of intelligence as its predecessor, Llama 4 Maverick, while requiring only one-tenth (1/10th) of the total compute power. This order-of-magnitude improvement positions Meta as a leader in sustainable and cost-effective AI development.

Availability

Muse Spark is now live and powering the Meta AI assistant on meta.ai and across Meta’s suite of apps. For developers and enterprise partners, the model is currently available via private preview API.

The difference in Contemplating mode is that it goes beyond traditional "System 2 Thinking." Instead of a single AI taking longer to think (sequential reasoning), Meta chooses to distribute the work among multiple AI agents (parallel agents) to reduce latency while maintaining high accuracy. This is a trend called Agentic Orchestration.

Muse Spark doesn't just interpret images; it excels in visual coding. Users can send web sketches or retro game ideas, and the AI will instantly create a usable mini-game or dashboard within seconds. This is a significant leap from the Llama 4 era.

Meta has added a health reasoning layer consulted by over 1,000 doctors, making Muse Spark exceptionally good at analyzing health data, such as calculating nutritional information from photos of meals or analyzing exercise movements (muscle activation) from videos. This addresses the needs of everyday AI.

Reducing computing power by 1/10th of the compute force isn't just about saving money. But it means that Meta can incorporate GPT-5-level intelligence into wearable devices like smart glasses or mid-range phones in the near future without the battery draining too quickly or the device overheating.
