ChatGPT Shatters Tech Records Hits 1 Billion Weekly Users in Just 3.5 Years.
Following its recent announcement offering unlimited messaging on its free tier, OpenAI has revealed a massive milestone: ChatGPT now serves over 1 billion weekly active users (WAUs). This comes just two months after the AI lab reported reaching 1 billion monthly active users (MAUs) in June, marking an unprecedented acceleration in daily user engagement.
By reaching 1 billion weekly users in approximately three and a half years since its public launch in late 2022, ChatGPT has officially set a new global benchmark. It surpasses the previous record-holder, Google Maps, which took roughly five years to reach the 1 billion user milestone.
In addition to consumer growth, OpenAI confirmed that its enterprise footprint continues to expand rapidly, with over 2 million business organizations now using ChatGPT’s paid enterprise and team products for corporate workflows.
