Windows 11 is increasingly raising questions from users about system resource usage, particularly RAM, because Microsoft has begun altering the behavior of several system services to run automatically upon startup in Windows 11 versions 24H2, 25H2, and Windows Server 2025. Previously, these services only ran when necessary, resulting in some services running in the background constantly without user knowledge.
One of the most scrutinized services is Delivery Optimization, a core feature of Windows Update responsible for distributing update files peer-to-peer to reduce internet usage and increase update speed.

Samsung has increased the price of DDR5 RAM by 100%.
Samsung has announced a doubling (100%) of its DDR5 RAM price, citing stock shortages as the reason for the price increase to partners and customers.
Samsung's sudden price increase for DDR5 RAM is based on contract pricing. Sources in the semiconductor industry, Jukan, indicate that Samsung informed customers that they have no DDR5 RAM left in stock.

DRAM for general users may be in short supply until 2028.
For those waiting for a price drop in RAM and hoping the memory market will return to normal soon, you might need to prepare yourself for a slower pace. SK Hynix, a major global memory manufacturer, has estimated that the shortage of DRAM for consumer use is likely to persist until 2028, potentially pressuring the consumer market for several years.
This view comes from an internal analysis by SK Hynix, published by user X under the username BullsLab. The document indicates that the global memory market continues to face an imbalance between supply and demand. While HBM memory and AI solutions are rapidly expanding due to data center investment, commodity DRAM used in PCs, gaming, and general consumer devices is facing limited production capacity growth in the coming years.

MicroQuickJS project is now open and runs JavaScript using only 10KB of RAM.
Fabrice Bellard, the legendary French programmer who created important projects such as FFmpeg, QEMU, and Tiny C Compiler, has launched a new project, MicroQuickJS (mjs), a JavaScript engine focused on extreme memory efficiency. The binary size is less than 100KB and uses only 10KB of RAM during runtime.
Bellard previously created QuickJS (qjs) in 2019, also aiming for a lightweight JavaScript engine, but qjs had a binary size of 387KB. This time, mjs changes the garbage collector to run in less RAM and doesn't use the CPU stack, while not supporting all JavaScript features; for example, it primarily supports ES5 strict mode.

Discord acknowledges that its Windows programs do consume more than 4GB of RAM.
Many Discord users on Windows have likely noticed their computers slowing down or lagging unusually lately. This isn't surprising, as Discord has admitted that the current version of their app is using a significant amount of RAM, reaching almost 4GB. The main reason is the switch to Electron, which causes all servers, chat rooms, and app features to function like opening multiple Chrome tabs. Leaving them open for extended periods without restarting causes RAM to swell, leading to noticeable slowdowns.
This problem isn't unique to Discord. Many Windows apps are now switching to Electron or WebView2 to save costs and development time, but users are ultimately bearing the burden of high RAM usage, excessive CPU workload, and overall slower performance. Even Microsoft Teams uses WebView2 and consuming over 2GB of RAM is commonplace.

Rumor!! has it that mobile phones in 2026 may have 4GB of RAM as standard.
The first half of 2025 saw a heated RAM market for both mobile and computer devices. This was due to RAM manufacturers like Samsung focusing on high-performance memory (HBM) for AI servers, leading to reduced DRAM chip production and a surge in RAM prices.
Rumors from Naver users suggest that by 2026, we might see very few mobile phones with 16GB of RAM anymore, except perhaps from some manufacturers who might be stockpiling it. It's also expected that the availability of 12GB and 8GB RAM phones might decrease by 40-50%, respectively.
